Why Civilization
You and I are important.
The one thing that can affect our lives the most is the society that surrounds us. Is it mostly free from violence for months on end? Is there usually food and warmth? Is the life expectancy greater than two years? Then it is better than living alone without any of the attributes of society such as language, tools, cloths and general protection from disease and animals.
Do the wise old ones share their stories and histories to help the young survive? Is the lore from generations gone by retained and revered? Is there a leader that you know and trust? Then you are better off than a pack of animals fighting over who is top dog every season, and the loser left to die alone.
Does your society promote net-sum-positive activities such as agriculture and common laws, laying away resources and planning for the future? The you are better off than the tribe that must always be on the alert for sudden changes in climate or status that bring the winds of death.
Is it just? Do you have some freedom and self-determination, allowing for the pursuit of happiness?
Then give thanks every day for the good fortune that the fates have bestowed upon you.
We are subject to our society, for it surrounds us.
We are responsible for our society.
Universal HOPE believes that Protecting the Earth and Humanity can be best accomplished by improving society and creating a Civilization whose fundamental principles are based on Universal Truths, and that by Colonizing the Solar System we can go a long way in supporting this goal.
Universal HOPE believes if we work together, we can form a society capable of sustaining Mankind through the rigors of its existence. We must mine the wisdom of the ages, for it is said if we do not understand the causes of history, we are doomed, and we must sometimes lay aside our individualism to work together for the common good.

The story of our planet indicates that humanity, against all odds, has risen from small beginnings.
In the beginning, one-on-one, it was us against Nature, red in tooth and claw. Few survived.
But from that, we forged packs, families and friendships, and shared our hard earned knowledge. Some more lived.
The Raveners did not produce, but found it easier to take and steal, than to hunt and gather, becoming the highest threat to those who husbanded their resources and planted for the following season. The Producers formed alliances, and forced to protect their crops, began the march towards fortifications and defenses, multi-generational projects, codes and societies. Cities arose and the people no longer always lived in the shadow of death and fear. Our ancestors survived.
As the PAX and local peace was enforced by the tyrants of the age, farming was no longer deadly, and growth of common surpluses released the burdens from the children of the most powerful creating the leisure of deep thinking.
Some of these Royalty and trust babies refrained from the indulgences of their age and developed philosophy, science and art, logic, law and poetry, and the rest of us were amazed.
Today, we again confront enormous obstacles, but no more than any of the previous age. Is living in a rough NY neighborhood any more dangerous than trying to go it alone years ago as a farmer in a far valley when a group of hungry Viking Berserkers crash through, or when scouts from Genghis Khan cohort find you? Just ask Otzi the Iceman just how safe those guys in the last village were.
Observations show that cooperation within groups somehow overcomes this seemingly inevitable cutting down and weathering of time. We can and must improve our society to create the robust civilization capable of the sustained effort that creating a self-sustaining space colony will require.
Universal HOPE believes that to Protect Mankind
